Definition 1.1
VOX4Given an action of G on S, define the quotient genus to be g_0 = g(S/\mathcal{G}) \geq 0. Moreover, letting Q_i, i=1, \dots, r, denote the branch points of \pi, for any P_i \in \pi^{-1}(Q_i) denote with c_i = \left \lvert \mathcal{G}_{P_i} \right \rvert >1 the order of the stabiliser of P_i in \mathcal{G}. We call the integer tuple (g_0; c_1, \dots, c_r) the signature of the action.
Moreover, given any finite group G and signature (g_0; c_1, \dots, c_r), define a generating vector associated to the signature to be \left\{ \alpha_1, \beta_1, \dots, \alpha_{g_0}, \beta_{g_0}, \gamma_1, \dots, \gamma_r \right\} \subset G such that
\lbrace\alpha_1, \beta_1, \dots, \alpha_{g_0}, \beta_{g_0}, \gamma_1, \dots, \gamma_r\rbrace generates G,
\gamma_i has order c_i, and
\prod_{i=1}^{g_0} (\alpha_i \beta_i \alpha_i^{-1} \beta_i^{-1}) \prod_{j=1}^r \gamma_j = 1.
